"When the Gods Reveal Themselves", group exhibition, Wilfrid Israel Museum of Asian Art & Studies,

Kibbutz Hazorea (Curators: Shir Meller-Yamaguchi & Anat Turbowicz) 2008

In this series, Chanchal Banga used the image of Jericho rose, a sign of the resurrection of Christ. A plant endogamy to Israel desert that looks like roots and open to spread its seeds whenever rain starts. As an Immigrant, Chanchal identify with the metaphor of Jericho Rose. It belong to Israel botanically but it symbolize Christianity that spread outside the borders of Israel, It is belonging to this landscape but at the same time, it does not. The tent motif in the series reinforces the sense of detachment that accompanies Chanchal as an immigrant. The imprinting of Buddha figures are an expression of his Indian roots. He used block prints to multiply Buddha - sometime he erase it and sometime he use it again in order to create an illusion. The colours he used are meaningful as well: saffron, red blue and green are all sacred colours and are use in the Indian spring festival "Holi". This work conveys his Indian spiritual traditional combining symbols from the western culture.
